The Okaloosa Regional Airport (*VPS), situated on Eglin Air Force Base, provides essential scheduled commercial air passenger service for a large proportion of the Northwest Florida area. Okaloosa Regional Airport is currently undergoing a major expansion program, which will include a new taxiway, expanded aircraft parking apron, additional public parking and renovation and expansion of the Terminal facilities.

The Airport's trade area is heavily oriented toward the important defense weapon system development and test and evaluation mission at Eglin AFB, the world's largest military reservation. Together with Hurlburt Field, home of Air Force Special Operations Command, Eglin AFB is the area's largest employer. Tourism also is one of the most important contributors to the region's economy. The Okaloosa Regional Airport is a natural gateway to the Gulf Coast which with its natural beauty and pleasant climate serves as a very desirable destination for both business and recreational travelers. The Airport currently serves over 520,000 passengers each year with direct service to Atlanta, Cincinnati, Memphis, Orlando, and Tampa.

Atlantic Southeast Airlines,
the Delta Connection, provides nonstop daily service to Atlanta, GA, utilizing the 66 passenger ATR aircraft and the 50 passenger CRJ aircraft. A.S.A. also utilizes the 30 passenger EMB 120 aircraft to provide additional service to Atlanta, GA on Saturdays. The Airport is limited to sixty operations per day by lease agreement with the military. Fifty-two operations are currently allocated. It is the County's intent to market for increased and improved service, and to include increased jet service to new and desirable destinations. Commercial aircraft only, no private aircraft.
